I know my last post was a lot about wanting to come home, but let me tell you, I couldn't be more happy to be here.
I think I just had a momentary lapse in "Fun" or that I'd had too much followed by too little.
I'm an imperfect human with an unstable emotional cycle. One day of too much serotonin and dopamine and the next day might as well be shot to hell. It's an awkward balance of trying to stay at ground level, but it's doable... just hard when you're traveling to and fro bouncing off the walls from the intake of gelatto, ice cream and chocolate with twice the regular sugar.
However, I'm working on it. I've come to a few realizations here, one being that it's really time to start putting on the big girl panties and figuring out what can push me over the edge, what can take me back to the top, and what just shoots be down, emotionally. It's going to take a while, I know, but I think I should really start focusing on that.
So, inner monologue aside that I felt the need to share with you all, here's how my week has gone.
Weekend of October 5th thru October 7th, I went to Portugal, here's the run down.
October 5th: Woke up 4am, got to the bus and embarked on the noble journey that is a seven hour drive to wherever it is that we stayed. Stopped twice on the drive for bathroom breaks. Went to a Cathedral that was SUPER beautiful with a chapel made out of bones. Like, literally, the inside was made out of skulls and bones of the people it was supposed to be built on top of.
After that we went to the city center, walked around, and went to another church that was even prettier, and went up to a look out tower that was pretty nice, and seeing as how the majority of the part of Portugal we were in was pretty flat, you could see really far.
After that we went to lunch, around 2:00ish, and it was fantastic. Then we went to the hotel, which was AMAZING. The buttons in the elevator were touch screen and we had a look out strait to the beach. Aw, it was wonderful.
At around 6:00 we went out to the beach to test out the water and it was frigid, as we expected, and the beach was kind of cold too, no use in trying to warm up really. So we walked around a little and took crazy pictures. It was really a sight to see. The beaches in Portugal are super clear, super cold, and SUPER beautiful.
That night we were all sitting in mine and K's room, drinking bottled Tinto de Verano and boxed wine just enjoying the night and the beach view. When Ale and Lil came by we discovered that there was a Karaoke bar that we really couldn't pass up. We walked down the strip, found a bar with a 7E liter of "Sex on the Beach" with free shots then went to go sing and ordered a few drinks there as well.
Everything was pretty much water, please don't be concerned.
I sang "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse, RIP, and it was epic, I was super nervous, but there you have it.
Mj sang a song too, I don't remember it, but she blew it away. Super blew it away.
October 6th:
Breakfast in the hotel. Got on a bus to visit Grottos, The End of the World, and Lagos.
The grotto visit was fantastic and reminded me a lot of The Little Mermaid. The water was super clear and the rocks were really breath taking. The boat sucked though, I couldn't even enjoy the food. I swam a little but the water was super cold. Even though it was cold, it was really too beautiful to not be in it. You could see strait to the bottom and it was just, ugh, fantastic.
After the belly rocking torture we went back to the hotel with enough time to change and get ready for our trip to the end of the world, or what they used to think was the end of the world. That was also magnificent. We got to see the School of Navigation where Christopher Colombus went to school, and then saw the area that he realized couldn't possibly be the end of the world. 'Twas pretty enriching stuff.
The views were fantastic and it was all quite magical.
My favorite view of the day was when we saw the sunset in Lagos. It was purple, pink and just, magical. The sky looked like it had just been splashed with a bunch of paint, it was SO beautiful.
After a fantastic dinner we went back to the hotel to get some rest. K, M, and R all went skinny dipping when we got back to the hotel but I stayed in my room to sleep. However I got hooked on a life time movie and couldn't. K and I stayed up until about 4am watching stupid movies on TV that were dubbed over quite terribly in Portuguese or were British.
October 7th:
Breakfast in the hotel again. Few hours on the beach. Bought my Portugal mug. Lunch. Got on the Bus, got home around 9ish. Barca v. Madrid was on, they tied... sad day.
This past week was my first real week of classes and it was fabulous! I have trouble with the 8:30 one, just because it's at 8:30am and that's hard on anyone really, but everything else is fantastic. All of my professors are really well educated and super engaging in class. They all try to pry information out of us, but I'm starting to get more comfortable in class.
Wednesday we were talking about poetry and I got three questions right. Out loud. My contributions were right. OMG
I'm a genius right?? :)
EGO. Booster.
Anyway, classes are fantastic. I'm learning a lot just about life in general. Pagan vs. Puritan, Derechos vs. Ley, fighting for what you believe in, all kinds of things. It's super educational.
I love it here, don't really want to leave....
However, I'm sick now. Thanks to Portugal I'm pretty sure... or hanging out with everyone who's been sick.
Taking meds, getting better. No te preocupes.
<3
Buenas Tardes.
